..But here is the thing...This ONLY hurts the NHL fans.

You can't think of any way this might hurt more than the fans?

I’m a fan of hockey and I have always hated the all star game. Completely useless, boring hockey with no emotion. Skills competition is the only interesting part and we are not even seeing the skill from players that don’t make it to the all stars. More interested in the franchises skills challenges instead

DeSmith > Howard
- LeafGuy89

The Penguins had the league's best goaltending this past month in December. Murray and DeSmith have both been on fire and the former is also finally healthy. 2 solid dudes between the pipes. The Pens have needs elsewhere, not at goaltending. And yet they have talked very intensely.

'A lot' and 'alot' mean very different things, ek. It also looked like you were trying to type with a heavy Bostonian accent up "thair"

I think having the all-star game in the middle of the season is silly.

If it were a true all-star game, it would happen at the beginning of every season to kick-off the season, with every trophy winner and the best seasons by players from the previous year being rewarded. Its also dumb that every team gets represented at the game, when some teams don't have "real all-stars".

"A perfectly healthy Alex Ovechkin has decided to skip the All-Star Weekend in San Jose to get some extra rest"

His obligation is to his team....not to NHL marketing. I'm fine with this.

I would scrap the all star game, but keep the skills competition. Every team sends their best for each event, so we get the actual best at each skill. That's an event I would watch.

This would allow, for example, Kapanen to go for fastest skater, which will never happen in the current format.
You could have Mike Smith in the goalie puckhandling one, which will never happen in the current format.

As if the NHL cares. If this is his "revenge" than it's weaksauce.

Ovechkin, or any player for that matter, skipping the AS game hurts no one.

No one.
